The culture festival of Lamu

This year it will be held 17-18-19 November 2007

The Lamu Cultural Festival has been taking place annually since 2001 and is hugely popular with the local population, who turn out in their thousands to enjoy performances of traditional music and dance, dhow races, donkey races, swimming competitions and more.

The event is growing in reputation and now attracting visitors from the wider region and beyond.
It is also playing a role in strengthening the historical social and cultural links between peoples of Lamu and Zanzibar.

  
During the festival they have a dhow competition, teams for different islands are competing.

They sail through the strait of Lamu and Manda (about 45 min), half way they also have to approach the jetty and make a turn.
