Many airlines go to Nairobi.
From there you can go by Air Kenya, Kenya Airways or Fly540, or you can go by train and bus.

Busses from Mombassa to Lamu are available, takes about 6-7 hours.

Jannat House can now offer to make the reservation for you for the total price of 1000 KES per person one way.

The busses to Lamu stops at mainland and from there will be 15 minutes dhow transport to Lamu (included in the price),

The bus trip could be combined with the night train from Nairobi to Mombassa.

Always choose 1st class (included's also breakfast and dinner).
The train leaves Nairobi at 19.00 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays,
and arrive in Mombassa at 8.30 am. (but are often late, choose the 11.00 am bus)
For return to Nairobi, the train leaves Mombassa at 19.00 at Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, arriving at 9.00 am.
However, the standard is low and the food terrible (bring your own food).
