The Kiwayo and Kiunga expedition
Day
1
We leave Lamu in the sunrise, set sail for a 4-5 hours trip north. Half way we stop for lunch and
swimming. The lunch is freshly caught fish cooked on-board
by our fabulous chef.
Then we move on north, passing a lot of mangrove to the northern part of Kiwayou and finally to the village
of Mkokoni on the main land.
The night is spent camping on the beach,
close to the village, and we eat dinner on the beach where the only lights
come from the moonlight and a fire.
Alternative:
-spend the night in simple bungalows (not included)
-spend the night at the luxury camp of Mike´s on Kiwayu
(not included)
Day
2
Next morning we sail around the island of Kiwayu to visit a beautiful
coral reef, which has not been destroyed by the climate changes.
1. After lunch we sail north again, to the Turtle island. We spend the
night in our tents, and hopefully we can see the giant turtles coming up on the beach at
night in the moonlight.
2. If it is the wrong season for seeing the turtles, other arrangements
will be planned instead, e.g. make a visit in the Mkokoni village and the camp of WWF and the night will be spent in Mkokoni again.
Day 3
The
next morning, we set
sails again back home
Half way back we stop at the island of Paté and visit the old town Siyu where a Portuguese fortress let's us remember the violent history from the past.
Lunch is
served somewhere on the way back, and also a stop for swimming will be done.
